The method of flip-flop uses the fact that holographic patterns in individual layers are only visible under a specific angle of observation. When observing a hologram our eye sees the patterns of only one layer, in ideal case. When changing the angle or rotating a hologram, all layers will be visible gradually, while the previous ones will disappear. Standard multilayered draft design of a hologram does not deal with an angle under which a specific motive in its layer will be visible, it is enough that it will be visible from a different angle or in different colors given by a light interference. Flip-flop draft design uses the visibility of individual layers under a specific angle only to create layers that could be observed individually with different graphics or texts or for animation creation.
Flip-flop hologram can have more layers. When there are 3 and more it is needed to create a holographic master as a draft design and that of course, affects the price of an order, but it uses a variety of graphical options. The more flip-flop patterns (layers) the more covering after putting the layers together and individual patterns will no longer be as recognizable from each other when rotated – they are partly overlapping. Using maximum number of layers (using crossing of grey in draft design) is good for crossing animations, not for showing multiple layers of e.g. text or totally unrelated graphical motives.
The most approachable for of flip-flop hologram is a two layered draft design. When producing this type of a two layered hologram a Dot Matrix hologram technology is used and it maximizes the angular difference between the observances of individual layers. In case of two layered hologram it is understandable that this angle is the largest and it decreases with a number of further defined layers. On a hologram like this only one out of two layers is visible to our eye from one angle, in ideal case. Information written in the second layer becomes visible after sticker’s rotation. In practice, the hidden layer is easily visible thanks to diffused light and also a fact that humans have two eyes and therefore observe the hologram under two different angles at the same time. However, it does not act disruptively or create characteristic rainbow crossings or interfere with the graphics of another layer. Therefore you have an option to compose two individual schemas in its graphics and its text and these will alternately visualize when rotating the hologram the way it is shown in the given animation.
