Butterfly Foundation is Australia’s national charity for eating disorders and body image issues, providing a voice for those affected and the people who care for them. Eating disorders are severe and complex mental illnesses with physical complications, and the medical, psychological, physical and social consequences can be long term and for many, life threatening.

Butterfly advocates for improved services from government, health and mental health organisations and the eating disorder sector, raising awareness in the media, with key stakeholders and via community engagement. Butterfly runs Australia’s only national Helpline for eating disorders and body image issues, supporting nearly 40,000 people every year; delivers evidence-based clinical treatment and support programs; and provides prevention initiatives in schools and the community to combat negative body image issues.

 

About the role

Reporting to the Butterfly Head of Clinical & Support Services, this position will lead the development and implementation of Australia’s first virtual community-based intensive outpatient program (v-IOP) specifically for the treatment of eating disorders as part of a stepped system of care for eating disorders.

The position is responsible for the effective and efficient management of human, administrative and financial resources of these services, including contractual reporting and budget management. This position will work closely with the Butterfly Helpline Manager and Recovery Support Services (RSS) Manager to ensure effective communication, consistent review of policies and procedures, and collaboration occurs across Butterfly Clinical Services.

 

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Model of Care

Working with the Head of Clinical & Support Services, lead the development of the model of care which will include:

  • Establishment of an Expert Advisory Group (EAG) to provide oversight and direction
  • Key stakeholder consultation in service development, including co-design with lived experience groups
  • Ensuring adequate clinical and technical governance
  • Identification of admission and discharge criteria
  • Aligning program governance with National Safety & Quality Digital Mental Health
  • Standards
  • Establishment of relevant and necessary committees/reporting structure to ensure adequate clinical and technical governance
  • Developing a staffing model including identifying clear scope of practice for all staff.
  • Development of a clinical evaluation proposal to conduct a clinical evaluation of the service.

Team Leadership

  • Workforce recruitment, onboarding and training
  • Clear referral processes and pathways to access service.
  • ensure optimal staff performance and engagement.
  • Ensure comprehensive supervision, training and professional development opportunities are established and maintained within the team.

Program Development and Service Delivery

  • Development of all relevant program materials.
  • ensure that resources, waitlists and staff rosters are being managed in a flexible and efficient manner to ensure uninterrupted and high-quality service delivery, in line with contractual obligations.
  • Ensure comprehensive clinical support processes (including external clinical supervision, access to clinical training and professional development) are established and maintained within the team.
  • Launch the service in a staged manner than enables opportunity for care to be delivered in a safe and effective manner with appropriate quality improvement processes and cycles in place.
  • Pilot data collection methodology and revise as needed.

Clinical

  • Provide clinical leadership to inform and guide the delivery of high-quality eating disorder treatment services.
  • Through advanced clinical knowledge and a high degree of clinical decision making, provide support to the team in ensuring that clients engaged with Butterfly services receive safe, and quality care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, supervision and case conferences that contribute to high quality outcomes for all clients and ensure clinical review meetings occur regularly.
  • Have oversight of day-to-day risk management for the programs and ensure appropriate registers for critical events are maintained.
  • Participate in professional development and maintain currency of professional knowledge and skills.

Service Evaluation / Quality

  • Maintain robust policies and procedures to underpin consistent service delivery including development of procedures and documentation where required; and ensuring documentation and training are updated to reflect any changes in procedure.
  • Ensure that high standards of record keeping are maintained such that accurate notes are recorded, file audits completed, and all participant files are stored in line with legislative requirements and organisational policies and procedures.
